We advise energy and utility companies and their contractors across the water, gas, electricity and telecommunications sectors in respect of their regulatory obligations. This work includes:

  • Advising existing regulated businesses on regulatory issues
  • Delivering regulatory compliance training to client operational, commercial, legal and management teams
  • Advising in respect of conflicting requirements of different regulatory regimes
  • Advising new entrants to the energy and utility sectors on applicable regulatory regimes
  • Applying for and obtaining relevant regulatory approvals for new entrants

Recent and ongoing work includes, advising:

  • new entrants and securing Code powers for them under the Electronic Communications Code from Ofcom;
  • on funds for liabilities requirements for for Code operators;
  • on the rights and obligations under the Electronic Communications Code and associated legislation;
  • on conflicts between various competing regulatory interests and requirements; and
  • on enforcement action by regulatory bodies in relation to regulatory shortcomings.

We also advise and protect the interests of businesses in the energy and utilities sector facing investigations and enforcement actions in areas such as:

  • Health and safety incidents
